Hazardous Waste Disposal

SET Environmental takes great pride in offering hazardous waste disposal solutions that eliminate customer liability when wastes are shipped to our Part B–permitted Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility (TSDF) in Houston, Texas. SET's extensive Part B permit allows us to perform a variety of chemical treatment and consolidation services. When you work with SET, you can rest assured that our entire network of disposal facilities is thoroughly audited by RCRA compliance specialists.

Types of Hazardous Waste We Handle

The broad range of waste types that we can accept allows us to provide comprehensive Hazardous Waste Disposal Services to both large and small quantity generators. We offer multi-treatment capabilities with single-site convenience for a vast range of hazardous substances and materials, such as:

  • Reactives
  • Gas Cylinders
  • Lab Packs
  • Corrosives
  • Fuels Blending
  • Commodity Packs
  • Consolidation
  • Pesticides
  • Mercury Waste
  • Batteries
  • Light Ballasts
  • Hazardous Waters
  • Fluorescent Bulbs

Our comprehensive hazardous waste disposal and treatment capabilities include the neutralization of acids and bases, oxidation and reduction, and hydrolysis of water reactives through our Reactives Processing System. We accept reactive wastes in lab pack configurations as well as in drums and cylinders.

Gas Cylinders

Our comprehensive Gas Cylinder Management Program is founded on our expertise in gas handling, process engineering, regulatory knowledge and specialty chemical treatment. SET designs safe, efficient treatment options for over 500 gases that would otherwise require more expensive disposal.

Lab Packs

We are equipped to accept small containers and quantities of lab materials, even if they do not appear to be “laboratory chemicals”, provided they are packaged per our Lab Pack Guidelines. We can also provide Lab Pack Services upon request.

SET accepts and neutralizes a wide variety of corrosive wastes, including: inorganic acid, phosphoric, nitric and chromic acids, as well as inorganic basic mixtures or discarded base products, such as sodium hydroxide, ammonium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide. We also accept organic acids and bases, such as amines and acetic acid.

Fuels Blending

For fuels blending, we will pick up organic liquids, sludges and solids. We also accept fuels with high halogen content or those containing RCRA-regulated metal.

Our Houston facility can receive waste materials in drums or other containers and consolidate it with compatible wastes in preparation for off-site disposal. We accept totes, drums and palletized materials in a variety of sizes and containers.

Commodity Packs

Wastes packed in small containers may be shipped as a commodity pack, including paints, adhesives, pharmaceutical items, test kits and vials, among others. Commodity packs can be placed directly into a drum or cubic yard box without being inventoriedand serve as a cost-saving alternative to lab packs when appropriate.

We accept pesticides in solid, liquid and gaseous states, including RCRA-regulated and non-regulated pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and rodenticides. SET treats and consolidates these types of waste for final disposal.

Mercury Wastes

SET is able to collect most metallic Mercury-containing instruments. We are also able to take care of most of the inorganic Mercury salts and salt solutions, such as mercuric chloride and mercuric sulfate, as well as organic Mercury wastes such as phenyl mercuric acetate. If in small quantities, we can lab pack Mercury waste or put it into drums and profile it as part of a waste stream. Learn more about our Mercury Decontamination Services.

Fluorescent Bulbs

You can ship bulbs to us either whole or crushed. Please note that the EPA prohibits waste generators from crushing spent Mercury-containing lamps as a form of treatment unless the EPA specifically authorizes state programs that allow crushing under controlled conditions.

SET accepts a variety of batteries, including alkaline, nickel cadmium, lead acid and Mercury. You can package batteries directly into drums of any size or you can lab pack small quantities for shipment to us. Each type of battery must be packaged separately, according to DOT regulations, except for alkaline, which are not regulated. Larger batteries can be shipped on pallets or in boxes.

Light Ballasts

Both PCB and non-PCB ballasts are acceptable, as long as ballasts containing PCB are declared “exempt”, that is, they are small enough to meet the exempt guidelines per TSCA regulations. Ballasts can be packaged in drumsand must be shipped according to DOT regulations if the quantity of PCB material exceeds 1 pound.

Hazardous Waters

We accept wastes primarily composed of water contaminated with hazardous metals, such as lead, chromium, cadmium and other RCRA metals. Wastes received in drums or other containers are consolidated and then shipped for stabilization or incineration.

Customized Tracking and Reporting Services

SET's custom computer program, Waste Trak, tracks the disposition of each container/cylinder from initial profiling to final disposition. Upon receipt at our TSDF, each container/cylinder is labeled with a unique bar code identification number for efficient inventory control, operations planning and processing information. This enables us to immediately determine the storage location and disposition of the container/cylinder for any item received.

We also provide comprehensive reporting services, including waste tracking reports and certificates of disposal, to help you ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
